Aberdeen Police are investigating after a civilian flash bang was thrown near an early voting site at Aberdeen Lake Park along U.S. 1 on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said witnesses reported hearing a loud noise and seeing a small explosion around 2:15 p.m. Several people initially believed a transformer had blown.

Officers interviewed about 30 witnesses, and police said multiple accounts indicated the device was thrown from a moving vehicle traveling southbound on U.S. 1.

Moore County News spoke with Capt. Shannon Blackburn, who said the flash bang went off about 150 yards away from the voting location. No one was injured.

Police said they do not have a description of the vehicle involved, and no arrests have been announced.

The incident remains under investigation.

A $500 reward is being offered for verifiable information leading to a successful arrest. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Aberdeen Police Department.
