Several Moore County police departments took place in the 2024 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics on Saturday morning in Pinehurst.

Participants gathered at Pinehurst Lake around 10 a.m., dressed in summer attire. While it may have felt like summer on land, the experience was quite different once they took the plunge. The lake’s temperature hovered in the mid-50s on Saturday morning.

Around 50 people took part in the plunge, raising nearly $4,000 to benefit the Special Olympics of North Carolina. A raffle and a prize for best costume were also awarded at the event.
