U.S. Highway 1 Bypass northbound was reduced to one lane after a Hyundai Elantra crashed in the median.

The crash happened around 8:15 a.m. near the North Alma Street bridge.

According to Troopers investigating the crash, the driver told them he must have fell asleep. The northbound Elantra veered off the right side of the road, waking the driver. The driver then overcorrected going off the left side of the road, flipped, and was stopped by the median guy wires.

A deputy with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office was first on scene and was able to help all four occupants out of the vehicle. Air Care was initially put on standby, but was cancelled once it was determined there were no injuries.

Cypress Pointe Fire Department closed the northbound lanes of Highway 1 while the scene was cleared.
