In just under two months, Pinehurst will host their fourth Men’s US Open Championship since 1999. With nearly 250,000 fans expected to come to Moore County, more than double the population, it takes a lot of preparation. Taking a drive around Moore County the past few months, you may have seen some changes like road work, and expanded railways near the resort.
Businesses and towns have been busy preparing for the increase of people for months. More recently in the past few weeks, construction of spectator stands, tents for concessions and merchandise, and TV camera towers have been going up around the iconic golf course. The temporary buildings will provide special VIP experiences, concessions, and shops so fans can enjoy a memorable tournament.

A security fence can be seen surrounding the resort’s property. The grandstands surround the famous 18th green, where Payne Stewart (1999), Michael Campbell (2005), Martin Kaymer (2014), and Michelle Wie (2014 Women’s) all won US Open Championships.
Nonprofits like churches and private schools have partnered up to work jobs like concessions and cleanup to help raise funds for their organizations.
Fans have been booking accommodations 30 minutes or more away because of the area hotels being sold out for some time. A lot of local residents decided to take advantage of the need for lodging and rent their homes.
Towns across the county are finding ways to be a part of the US Open. In northern Moore County, the town of Robbins, which is 22 miles from the resort, is putting together a summer concert series to provide fans and county residents with a place to get away from it all.
Preparation around the resort and the Village of Pinehurst will continue until the first tee.
And this won’t be the last time Pinehurst sees the US Open Spotlight. In 2029 Pinehurst Resort will host both Men’s and Women’s US Opens for the second time.
