A high-speed police chase through northern Moore County ended in a crash involving a Moore County sheriff’s deputy Thursday afternoon outside Robbins.
The pursuit began around 2 p.m. after Robbins police spotted a Toyota Prius matching the description of a vehicle included in a BOLO issued out of Montgomery County. Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away, prompting a pursuit.
The chase continued along N.C. Highway 705 and N.C. Highway 24/27, with speeds reportedly exceeding 120 mph.
Around 2:15 p.m., the pursuit came to an end along Highway 24/27 near McDuffie Road outside Robbins, when the suspect’s vehicle crashed with a Moore County sheriff’s deputy.
The deputy was checked out at the scene and is expected to be OK. The suspect was transported to a hospital and is also expected to be OK.
The incident reportedly stems from an alleged domestic situation in Montgomery County earlier Thursday. Montgomery County deputies had reportedly pursued the same suspect earlier in the day but lost contact with the vehicle during that pursuit.
Authorities in Montgomery County later issued the BOLO that led Robbins police to identify the suspect vehicle.
