A four-legged member of the Pinebluff Police Department is set to receive life-saving protection thanks to a donation from a national nonprofit organization.
K9 Jett will soon be outfitted with a bullet and stab-resistant vest provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., a Massachusetts-based charity dedicated to safeguarding law enforcement dogs across the country. The vest will be embroidered with the message: “This gift of protection provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.” Delivery is expected within the next ten weeks.
The donation is part of the nonprofit’s ongoing mission to provide custom-fitted, U.S.-made body armor to working dogs in law enforcement and related agencies. Since its founding in 2009, the 501(c)(3) organization has equipped more than 6,000 K9s in all 50 states with vests valued at over $6.9 million, thanks to private and corporate contributions.
Eligible dogs must be at least 20 months old, actively employed, and certified with a law enforcement or related agency. K9s with expired vests are also eligible. Each donated vest, valued at $1,800, weighs approximately 4 to 5 pounds and comes with a five-year warranty.
