A Richmond County Sheriff’s Office vehicle was involved in a deadly two-vehicle crash Monday morning on Highway 1 at Chicago Avenue in Pinebluff.

According to officials, a Chevrolet pickup truck was pulling out of West Chicago Avenue into the path of the southbound Sheriff’s Office vehicle on U.S. 1. The patrol vehicle then T-boned the truck, causing significant damage to both vehicles. The Sheriff’s vehicle came to rest on its side.

The male driver of the Chevrolet was taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The deputy driving the Sheriff’s vehicle was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

The southbound lanes of Highway 1 were closed for a period of time while crews worked the scene and cleared the roadway.
