West End teen charged in multi-agency investigation into stolen fire helmets

West End teenager who previously served as a firefighter is facing multiple felony charges after an investigation linked him to a string of stolen firefighter helmets across several departments in Moore County.

According to the Aberdeen Police Department, 19-year-old Peyton Bayle Jordan was arrested following a months-long investigation that began in April when officers responded to the Aberdeen Fire Department for a report of a stolen fire helmet.

Investigators conducted several interviews and eventually developed a lead that pointed to other similar thefts in nearby jurisdictions.

By late September, Aberdeen investigators had coordinated with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office and the Vass Police Department after learning those agencies were also investigating helmet thefts. Working together, the departments uncovered a series of thefts and the sale of the stolen helmets.

On September 26, Jordan was charged with felony larceny and two counts of felony obtaining property by false pretenses. He was arrested by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office and taken before a magistrate, who set his bond at $5,000 secured.

Moore County News confirmed that Jordan was a firefighter with the Carthage Fire Department. When contacted for comment, the department said Jordan is no longer with them and that there would be no further comment.

Police said Jordan is also facing additional charges filed by both the Moore County Sheriff’s Office and the Vass Police Department in connection with related incidents.

Any person facing charges is innocent in the eyes of the law until proven guilty in court.
