Construction crews have been long at work on the new Moore County courthouse over the last few years, and now officials are ready to show the public what the 123,000-square-foot building has to offer.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is schedule for August 6, and several prominent government officials have been invited to attend. State Senator Tom McInnis and State Representatives Neal Jackson, Ben Moss and John Sauls are planning to attend. North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul Newby will speak at the event.

The $53 million project will bring a state-of-the-art experience to court proceedings, including a new audio visual system that has the ability to record and televise cases heard in the court rooms. Each courtroom will have multiple cameras and microphones capable of tracking whoever is speaking. The courthouse will now have an e-filing system that will take it from paper to electronic, allow the public to view filings online.

The new building will connect to the current courthouse, which will go through a renovation.
