A father has been arrested by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office in relation to the death of his child.

In a press release, Sheriff Ronnie Fields announced the arrest of Aaron Lynwood Carter, 27, for the death of two-year-old River Carter. The MCSO says on December 2, 2023, deputies responded in assistance with Moore County EMS to a report of an unresponsive child in the 100 block of Shadywood Court in the Seven Lakes North community. The child was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

Investigators say the child had been isolated to a room for more than 12 hours, and was exposed to elevated temperatures from a space heater prior to the 911 call. After reviewing the medical examiner’s findings, authorities decided to arrest the child’s father.

Carter has been charged with one count of felony involuntary manslaughter and one count of felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury in connection with River Carter’s death. He is jailed at the Moore County Detention Center under a $500,000.00 secured bond and will make his first court appearance on January 9, 2025.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Information and photos in this article were contributed by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.
