Nearly 600 lose power after car crashes into fallen tree on Highway 73

Published on

A large tree fell across Highway 73 near Hotel Street in Jackson Springs on Friday night, taking down power lines and knocking out electricity to nearly 600 Duke Energy customers.

Shortly after the tree fell, a Honda Pilot crashed into it, according to officials. The three people inside the SUV were not seriously injured.

Fire crews from West End Fire & Rescue closed the highway while they worked to remove the tree and clear the roadway.

Duke Energy crews were called to repair the downed lines and restore power.
