Fiery crash shuts down Roseland Road

Published on

A serious crash closed part of Roseland Road on Thursday afternoon after a vehicle struck a tree and caught fire.

Troopers said the crash happened shortly before 1:45 p.m. near the intersection with Bachelor Farm Road. The driver, a 19-year-old woman, was likely on her way home, which was less than two miles from the crash site, according to authorities.

Witnesses at the scene rushed to help, pulling her from the burning vehicle before first responders arrived. CPR was performed, and she was taken to Moore Regional Hospital because no medical helicopters were available at the time. She was later airlifted to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Authorities said she suffered life-threatening injuries and was traveling an estimated 80 miles per hour at the time of impact. As of late Friday afternoon, authorities reported she was still in critical condition.

Roseland Road remained closed for some time as crews investigated and cleared the wreckage.
