A motorcyclist was airlifted to a trauma center Tuesday night following a single-vehicle crash along Brinkley Road, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 10 p.m. near the intersection of Brinkley Road and Murdocksville Road outside of Carthage. Troopers say the motorcyclist swerved to avoid hitting a deer, lost control of the bike, and crashed.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and transported the rider to the nearby airfield at Pik-N-Pig in Carthage, where a medical helicopter airlifted him to a trauma center for treatment.

The motorcyclist’s condition is currently unknown, however he was alert and talking with first responders at the scene.

Brinkley Road was closed as emergency crews were on the scene.
