A local Jeep enthusiast group will bring vehicles, a silent auction and community fundraising together next weekend to support a program helping survivors of sex trafficking.
Just Moore Jeeps will hold its annual Show and Shine from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at 299 Magnolia Road in Pinehurst. The event will take place in the park across from Pinehurst Brewing Company.
Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit Changing Destinies Ministry and Rachel’s Refuge, a residential program for women who have survived sex trafficking.
According to Changing Destinies Ministry, Rachel’s Refuge provides a Christ-centered residential program designed to help survivors work toward healing and independent living. The program can last up to two years and includes shelter, care, education and other support services.
“Every survivor deserves the opportunity to know that their story does not end with what happened to them,” Kim Lyons, communications director for Changing Destinies Ministry, said in a news release.
Just Moore Jeeps was founded around two goals: enjoying Jeeps and giving back to the community. The group participates in charitable events throughout the year, including parades and fundraising drives.
Last year’s Show and Shine drew more than 200 people and raised more than $4,000, according to organizers. The money benefited Clara McLean House, which provides accommodations for patients and families who travel to the area for medical care.
Organizers hope to double that amount this year, setting a fundraising goal of $8,000 for Changing Destinies Ministry.
The Sept. 26 event will include the Show and Shine along with fundraising activities and a silent auction. Auction items are expected to include gift baskets, wooden flags and other donated items.
The event is open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at 299 Magnolia Road in Pinehurst.
