Motorcyclist killed in three-vehicle crash in Vass

A motorcyclist has died following a three-vehicle crash that shut down a portion of Union Church Road in Vass for nearly two hours Friday afternoon.

The crash happened just before 4:45 p.m. in the 100 block of Union Church Road. According to officials, the driver of a Mazda CX-5 was attempting to turn into a driveway when they pulled into the path of two oncoming motorcycles.

One of the motorcycles collided with the passenger side of the Mazda, sending the rider through the air. A third vehicle, a Honda SUV, swerved off the roadway in an attempt to avoid the crash but was unable to avoid hitting the motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist was critically injured and transported to the hospital, where they later died, Vass Police confirmed to Moore County News.

Union Church Road was closed for nearly two hours as emergency crews worked to investigate the scene and clear the wreckage.

The other drivers involved were not injured, including the second motorcyclist.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash, charges against the driver of the Mazda are pending.
