The Pinecrest Players kicked off their spring production of “Mamma Mia” on Friday night. Before the audience was treated to an evening of beloved ABBA hits, director and instructor Adam Faw was honored with the Herman Middleton Distinguished Service Award by the North Carolina Theatre Conference.

Each year, the NCTC Board of Directors recognizes companies, schools, and individuals who demonstrate leadership in their communities and excellence in the artistic, professional, or educational fields. Comprising volunteers from across the state, the Board represents North Carolina’s leading theatre organizations and schools. The NCTC Herman Middleton Distinguished Service Award honors individuals who have shown exceptional dedication to both NCTC and the North Carolina theatre community.

“The NCTC Herman Middleton Distinguished Service Award is one of NCTC’s highest honors. Adam’s dedicated support of the North Carolina Theatre industry includes serving on the NCTC Board of Directors, hosting NCTC Play Festivals, fundraising to support NCTC programs, presenting at theatre conferences, recruiting new members, and advocating for public funding for the arts with elected officials,” NCTC Executive Director Angie Hays said in a press release. “Adam’s volunteer efforts have been in addition to his outstanding work as an arts educator. In his 21 years as the theatre teacher at Pinecrest High School, Adam’s productions have won dozens of awards, advanced to the NCTC State High School Play Festival multiple times, and earned the Distinguished Play Award at the State Festival in 2009. In 2014, Adam received the NCTC K12 Theatre Arts Educator Award, and the NCTC Board of Directors is proud to honor him a second time for his service to the statewide theatre field.”

The Pinecrest Players continue their production of “Mamma Mia” on Saturday, March 1 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 2 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.
