Semi-truck overturns, trapping driver in cab

Published on

Firefighters from Candor and West End Fire departments worked for approximately an hour to free the driver of an overturned semi-truck on Monday afternoon.

The crash happened in a sharp curve on Belford Church Road, yards from where Montgomery and Moore counties meet. The truck was carrying a load of pine bark, traveling on the road towards Candor from Jackson Springs. N.C. Highway Patrol tells Moore County News that the driver was traveling too fast for the curve, and the weight of his load shifted, causing the truck to overturn.

On the scene, the truck could be seen completely flipped upside down, and the cab of the truck was crushed, pinning the driver inside.

Once rescuers were able to free the driver, he was transported to Belford Baptist Church by Moore County EMS to a waiting UNC Carolina Air Care helicopter. According to Candor Fire Department, the man was talking and alert, however his injuries are serious.

Belford Church Road, which is Jackson Springs Road in Moore County, was shut down for an extended period of time.
