A local man was killed in a single-vehicle crash discovered Sunday afternoon on North Howard Mill Road near George P Road.
Emergency crews were dispatched around 1:25 p.m. after a passerby noticed damage from the crash and called it in.
The vehicle had been traveling on North Howard Mill Road toward Randolph County when it ran off the right side of the road, struck trees and went down an embankment.
The impact was severe enough to separate the engine from the vehicle.
The man, who was the vehicle’s only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.
First responders said the vehicle’s engine was cold when they arrived, indicating the crash may have happened sometime before it was discovered. The exact time of the crash is unknown.
George P Road was closed while emergency crews investigated the crash and cleared the scene.
The identity of the driver has not been released. Moore County News is also withholding a description of the vehicle until first responders have notified the man’s next of kin.
No information about what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway or the identity of the driver has been released.
