Semi-truck brings down lines and power pole onto Highway 211

Major traffic backups occurred on Highway 211 at Highway 73 in West End on Monday due to low-hanging lines brought down by a semi-truck.

According to Troopers, West End firefighters were directing traffic around a low-hanging line at the intersection when the driver of the semi-truck failed to follow the detour. The trailer of the semi-truck caught the low-hanging line and pulled a pole out of the ground.

The intersection was shut down until the lines and poles were removed from the road.

Traffic backed up for miles on Highway 211, even after reopening, westbound traffic was still backed up to Hoffman Road.

The NC Highway Patrol cited the semi-truck driver for the incident.
