One airlifted, one hospitalized after Vass crash

Emergency crews responded to a serious crash Monday morning in Vass after a vehicle veered off the road, went down an embankment, and struck a tree.

According to Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue, the crash happened at the intersection of Vass-Carthage Road and Dogwood Avenue, where responders found one patient pinned and another entrapped inside the vehicle.

CPFR said in a Facebook post, the pinned patient was extricated first and quickly transported to a helicopter landing zone established nearby. They were airlifted to a trauma center. Due to the condition of the second patient, medical crews made the decision to treat her in place before attempting to remove her from the vehicle.

Officials initially requested two medical helicopters. However, the second was canceled due to a 30-minute estimated arrival time. The second patient was transported by ground to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Southern Pines Fire & Rescue was dispatched as a second rescue unit while Whispering Pines Fire & Rescue managed the landing zone. Moore County EMS, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina Highway Patrol also responded to the scene.
