Three found dead inside Pinebluff home; man in custody

A Pinebluff man is in custody and facing charges in connection with a triple homicide investigation after three people were found dead inside a home Wednesday morning.

Moore County sheriff’s deputies responded around 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, to a residence in the 100 block of Ryder Cup Boulevard in Pinebluff. Deputies found three people dead inside the home, according to the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said the deaths appeared to be the result of homicide.

During the investigation, authorities identified 40-year-old Demetrius Louis Aggelis of Pinebluff as a suspect. The Sheriff’s Office said evidence obtained through the Flock Safety camera network, along with other evidence gathered during the investigation, played a significant role in identifying Aggelis.

Aggelis is in custody and is being charged with three counts of murder and one count of first-degree burglary, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Aggelis is being held at the Moore County Detention Center without bond and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 19.

First responders remained at the residence throughout the day and into Wednesday night, clearing the scene around 10:15 p.m., more than 14 hours after deputies were initially called to the home.

Neighbors who spoke with Moore County News said Aggelis and the victims were related. Neighbors also told MCN that Aggelis and one of the victims had served in the military. Those details have not been confirmed by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.

Property records reviewed by Moore County News show that one of the owners of the property where the three people were found shares the same last name as Aggelis. The property records alone do not establish a relationship between the individuals.

Neighbors also described the victims as sweet people who would regularly say hello and speak with them when they were outside.

The names of the three victims have not been released as authorities work to notify their next of kin. Investigators have also not released information about how the victims died or additional details about the crime scene and evidence, citing the need to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

The investigation remains active.

Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact the Moore County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 910-947-2931. Anonymous tips can be submitted through the Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at 910-947-4444.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
