A West End man is facing felony charges after allegedly setting fire to a dumpster behind a Carthage bank Thursday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. behind the Truist Bank on Monroe Street. Witnesses told police they saw a man ignite the fire and flee the scene on foot.

Carthage Police, with assistance from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, quickly launched a search of the area. Thanks to detailed witness descriptions and cooperation from the alleged suspect’s probation officer, officers were able to identify and locate the individual.

Police arrested 20-year-old Noah Ethan Watson of West End. He has been charged with felony burning of personal property. Watson was taken into custody without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 22.
