Hazmat team responds to chlorine leak at Robbins water plant

A hazmat team from Fayetteville was called to Robbins on Tuesday afternoon after a chlorine leak was reported at the town’s water treatment plant.

The incident happened before 2 p.m. off of Highway 705.The leak was contained to a building on the property and did not pose any risk to the public, according to town officials.

Emergency crews called in the Fayetteville hazmat team to evaluate the situation. After assessing the scene, they determined the leak was under control.

Town officials said chlorine is commonly used, but any potential leak is treated seriously to ensure safety for the community.
