Authorities closed one lane of Highway 24-27 near U.S. 1 bypass on Tuesday afternoon when an Escalade caught fire and partially blocked the roadway.

Troopers with the N.C. State Highway Patrol say the call was dispatched as a motor vehicle crash and vehicle fire, however once they were on scene, they determined no crash took place. According to the Troopers, the Escalade was traveling west on the highway when the front tire on blew, and came off the vehicle. This caused the rotors to drag along the asphalt and cause a fire. Cypress Pointe Fire officials say the fire was contained to the front wheel area of the vehicle.

The westbound lane of the highway was closed while emergency crews were on the scene. Firefighters directed traffic around the incident using the eastbound lane.

The driver of the Escalade was not injured.
