A Sunday morning house fire in West End has claimed the life of a pet dog, and heavily damaged the home when it filled with smoke.

Firefighters from West End and other nearby areas were dispatched to the home next to West Pine Middle School on Archie Road just before 9:30 a.m. Heavy smoke could be seen coming from the house, and flames were seen in a bedroom.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze quickly, and contain the fire damage to the bed room area. Heavy smoke damage was seen throughout the rest of the home.

One dog that was inside the room that caught fire was killed, another dog that was in a bathroom was able to escape. No one else was injured in the fire.

Investigators are looking into the cause, but according to the homeowner, believe it started from a faulty window AC unit.
