A police chase sparked by a reported larceny ended in a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. 1 and N.C. Highway 5 in Aberdeen Friday evening, snarling traffic and prompting a multi-agency search.
The incident began shortly before 5:30 p.m. when Aberdeen Police responded to a reported theft at Going Going Gone. A 911 caller provided a description of the suspect vehicle, which officers quickly spotted traveling southbound on U.S. 1.
As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, a pursuit ensued. The chase ended abruptly when the suspect vehicle collided with two other cars at the busy intersection.
Two individuals from the suspect vehicle were arrested at the crash site. A third suspect fled on foot but was later apprehended in nearby woods following an intensive search by multiple law enforcement agencies.
One occupant of the fleeing vehicle was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. According to Aberdeen Police Chief Brian Chavis, who spoke to Moore County News at the scene, a search of the vehicle turned up items allegedly stolen from Going Going Gone.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is handling the crash investigation, which Chavis said is standard protocol following pursuits that result in collisions.
The southbound lanes of U.S. 1 were shut down for nearly 90 minutes as authorities worked the scene. One lane reopened to traffic just before 7 p.m.
No other injuries were reported.
