Commercial air service effort in Moore County secures $1.2 million in pledges

An effort to restore commercial air service to Moore County Airport has reached a new financial milestone, with $1.2 million in pledge agreements now secured from local businesses and individuals.

The Moore County Economic Development Partnership announced the total Friday as part of its quarterly progress report covering the quarter that ended June 30.

According to MCEDP, the organization has been collecting signed agreements to formalize previously made verbal pledges toward a minimum revenue guarantee needed as part of the effort to restore commercial air service at Moore County Airport. To date, those signed agreements total $1.2 million.

The effort, known as Fly Local, is aimed at bringing commercial flights back to Moore County Airport.

The latest report does not provide a timeline for when commercial air service could begin or indicate that an agreement with an airline has been finalized.

The report also did not provide additional details on how much funding is ultimately needed for the minimum revenue guarantee or when the effort could result in the return of commercial passenger flights to Moore County Airport.
