A driver suffered life-threatening injuries following a violent single-vehicle crash Sunday evening on Bellview Road just outside of Robbins.

The crash happened shortly after 6 p.m. in the 600 block of Bellview Road.

According to initial findings, the driver of a Mazda 3 was traveling along Bellview Road towards Plank Road when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway while navigating a curve. Authorities said the car struck a storm drain, causing it to flip.

Investigators said the vehicle then went airborne through a yard before landing in a wooded area nearby. The car reportedly traveled through several trees before coming to a stop.

The impact was so severe that the vehicle’s engine separated from the car and was found approximately 100 feet from the final resting location of the vehicle. Authorities also noted the steering wheel ended up on the passenger side of the vehicle following the crash.

The male driver was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.

Emergency crews initially requested a medical helicopter to respond to the scene, but weather conditions, including thunderstorms in the area, prevented the aircraft from flying.

Authorities were unable to identify the driver at the scene.

A resident whose property the vehicle traveled through told Moore County News that the impact shook his house.

The crash remains under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
