A man was airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries following a serious single-vehicle crash along U.S. Highway 1 northbound just north of Pinebluff on Saturday.

According to state troopers, the vehicle was traveling around 90 miles per hour along Bachelor Farm Road when the driver failed to stop at the intersection with U.S. 1. The car ran the stop sign, crossed the highway, went airborne, and struck several trees before coming to a stop.

Emergency crews arrived to find the man, the sole occupant, trapped in the wreckage. Firefighters worked to free him from the vehicle.

Officials confirmed that paramedics performed CPR on the driver at the scene and were able to revive him before he was flown to a trauma center. His injuries are considered life-threatening.

Investigators say speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

No other vehicles were involved, and the incident remains under investigation.
