A house in Carthage was spared any significant damage after the contents of a dryer caught fire on Tuesday. The fire happened in the 800 block of Niagara Carthage Road just before 5:45 p.m.

The two homeowners were home at the time of the fire, smelled smoke, and checked the dryer. When one of the homeowners opened the dryer, flames shot out. The house quickly filled with smoke.

A deputy from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office was able to get to the scene quickly, and radioed there were flames coming out of the dryer when he arrived. Firefighters from Carthage were able to get there within minutes and extinguish the fire before it could spread from the dryer.

The second homeowner has mobility issues, and was not able to leave the house as it filled with smoke. She was helped outside by firefighters and was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation. She is expected to be OK and return home shortly. The male homeowner and a pet dog was not injured.
