A single-vehicle crash brought down a power pole and closed U.S. 15-501 in both directions near the entrance to Pinecrest High School early Sunday.
The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. A Honda Civic traveling south went off the right side of the road, struck a bush and then hit a power pole. The pole broke and fell to the ground, leaving a line across the highway.

Authorities closed both directions while the crash was cleared and repairs were made to the pole and line. The highway reopened just after 2:30 a.m.
According to emergency radio traffic, the driver was reportedly traveling at a very high rate of speed. Radio traffic also indicated that Pinehurst police took the driver into custody at the scene.
No details were released about whether the driver sustained any injuries.
