A man was arrested at the scene of a two-vehicle crash that happened on N.C. Highway 24-27 outside of Cameron on Saturday.
Around 7:20 p.m., first responders were dispatched to the area of Highway 24-27 and Grady Road. The first arriving unit found two pick-up trucks off in a field, one of them over 350 feet deep into the field.
Investigators say a Ford F-150 had just turned onto the highway towards Cameron from Grady Road, when the driver of a Ford Ranger traveling at a high rate of speed attempted to pass the F-150 using the right shoulder of the road. The driver of the Ranger attempted to bring the vehicle back on the road when it collided with the F-150. The Ranger spun out in the roadway before running off the left side of the road, coming to a stop deep into the field. The F-150 was also forced into the field from the impact.

Neither driver appeared to be injured. Troopers conducted a field sobriety test to the driver of the Ranger, and arrested the man at the scene for DWI.
Cypress Pointe Fire closed the highway to one lane for about 30 minutes due to emergency vehicles in the roadway.
