Two arrested in connection with Southern Pines bank robbery

The Southern Pines Police Department, in collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, has announced the arrests of two individuals in connection with the armed robbery of the Truist Bank located at 200 SW Broad Street on April 11, 2025.

The robbery occurred at approximately 5:07 p.m., prompting an immediate investigation by local authorities with federal assistance.

Police identified and arrested Christopher Lee Bibey, 47, of Southern Pines, and Jaylan Garratt Schmidt, 24, of Carthage, for their alleged involvement in the crime.

Bibey has been charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon. He appeared before a Moore County Magistrate and was remanded to the Moore County Detention Center without bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 24, 2025.

Jaylan Garratt Schmidt

Schmidt faces a charge of Aiding and Abetting Robbery. He also appeared before a Moore County Magistrate and is being held without bond. His court date is set for May 1, 2025.

The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not released further details regarding the robbery or how the suspects were apprehended. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Southern Pines Police Department.
