The Southern Pines Police Department is actively investigating a bank robbery that occurred late Friday afternoon at Truist Bank, located at 200 SW Broad Street.
According to officials, officers were dispatched to the scene around 5:07 p.m. following reports of a robbery in progress. Witnesses told investigators that a suspect, dressed in full camouflage and armed with a long gun, entered the bank and demanded money from employees. Before fleeing on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect claimed there was a bomb on the roof of the building.
Responding officers quickly secured the area, including the rooftop, which was later cleared with no explosives found. The suspect was last seen running down the alley behind the nearby post office and toward South Bennett Street.
No injuries were reported, and authorities say there is no known ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains active.
Police are now asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect. Businesses and residents in the area with security camera systems are urged to review their footage and contact investigators with any potential leads.
