Pregnant woman airlifted after two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 1

A two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 1 south of Pinebluff resulted in a pregnant woman being airlifted to the hospital on Tuesday.

According to state troopers, both vehicles were traveling southbound when the crash occurred near Ryder Cup Boulevard. Investigators say the driver of a Ford Escape slowed down to turn left when a Jeep approaching from behind failed to slow down and rear-ended the SUV. The impact sent both vehicles off the roadway, causing the Escape to overturn.

Emergency responders arrived to find a six-month pregnant woman inside the overturned Escape. A medical helicopter was requested, and a landing zone was established at the Pinebluff ball field. Her current condition was not released.

Traffic along U.S. 1 was temporarily impacted as crews worked to clear the scene.
