MCSO in search of shooting suspect

UPDATE September 11, 2024: According to a statement released Wednesday, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office has captured Dectrek Kochevse Dontrai Barrett, and arrested an additional person allegedly involved in the shooting.


The Moore County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help finding a man allegedly connected to a shooting that happened Sunday in Taylortown.

According to a press release, just after 1:30 a.m. on September 1, 2024, deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the 1200 block of Juniper Lake Road. When they arrived, deputies located a 26-year-old male victim, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the lower leg. He was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Moore County Sheriff’s Investigators have determined that the suspect was known to the victims, and the shooting is not believed to be a random act.

MCSO are in search of Dectrek Kochevse Dontrai Barrett in connection with the shooting. According to the MCSO press release, Barrett allegedly fled the scene upon deputies’ arrival and remains at large. A search was conducted, but the alleged suspect was not immediately located.
