Man arrested after crashing into woods, leaving scene

A man was arrested after a single-vehicle crash outside of Vass on Saturday.

First responders were dispatched to the 4900 block of Vass-Carthage Road around 12:30 p.m., and arrived to a Honda Passport in the wood line along the road.

Investigators say the driver ran off the right side of the road, and into the wood line. The impact caused a tree to fall and block part of the roadway. Firefighters were able to cut the tree and remove it from the roadway.

The first arriving unit reported that the driver was fleeing the scene, going down Sandy Oak Road on foot.

Moore County Sheriff Deputies along with Vass Police, Whispering Pines Police, and N.C. Highway Patrol conducted a search, and notified near by residents to the incident.

The man was found about an hour after the crash, and was arrested. Troopers say the man was impaired at the time, and multiple charges have been filed.
