Driver injured after hitting tree in late-night crash

Published on

A single-vehicle crash shut down Highway 24-27 in both directions for about an hour late Saturday night after a driver lost control and crashed into a tree.

According to state troopers, the crash happened just after 11 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 24-27 and Red Hill Road. The male driver of a Toyota Prius was traveling east when he lost control, crossed the center line, and struck a tree on the opposite side of the road. The impact forced the vehicle back into the roadway.

Emergency crews responded quickly, with firefighters having to cut off the driver’s side door to free the man from the wreckage. Initially, a medical helicopter was requested, but it was canceled after paramedics evaluated the driver at the scene. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers say speed was a factor in the crash. The highway was reopened after about an hour once the scene was cleared.
