A high-speed chase exceeding 100 miles per hour ended when the driver lost control, crashed, and then fled the scene, authorities said.

The incident began when a Foxfire Police officer attempted to pull over the driver of a Dodge Charger for allegedly speeding on Hoffman Road. Instead of stopping, the driver took off, leading police on a chase down Highway 211 to Juniper Lake Road. The pursuit then continued with a left turn onto Beulah Hill Church Road before heading back toward West End on N.C. Highway 73, according to authorities.

The Troopers investigating the crash say the Charger’s left front tire appeared to have blown out, causing the driver to lose control and crash head-on into a tree along the highway near Patton Road.

The driver jumped out of the Charger and ran into the woods, according to Foxfire Police.

One lane of the highway was closed while emergency crews were on the scene. At the time of publication, the driver had not been found.
