Hundreds of bicycles were lined up in the parking lot of Walmart on Christmas morning, ready for kids to come pick out the perfect one for them.

Project Santa of the Sandhills is a non-profit organization that gives children of Moore County bicycles on Christmas and New Year’s Day.

It started in the 1990’s when Earl Wright began taking food, toys, and gifts into Moore County housing projects at Christmas.  Wright began to repair bikes and give them away in 1996, which became know as “Project Santa.” Since then, Earl and partner Sharon Thompson work year round to collect and gift more than 1,000 bikes each Christmas season.

Several food trucks were also on hand Christmas morning for this year’s event.
