A woman and child were taken to the hospital with minor injuries after a single-vehicle crash near Carthage on Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.

The wreck happened just after noon on Joel Road near Farm Life School Road. Authorities say a Dodge Nitro was traveling toward Carthage when it went off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree head-on.

Moore County EMS transported the woman and child to the hospital for treatment. Officials told Moore County News at the scene that their injuries appear to be minor.

One lane of Joel Road was closed while first responders worked at the scene. Troopers with the N.C. State Highway Patrol are investigating the cause of the crash.
