Two-vehicle collision shuts down Southern Pines intersection

A crash closed the intersection of Central Drive (Highway 22) and Pee Dee Road in Southern Pines on Wednesday evening.

First responders were dispatched to the intersection around 6:15 p.m., and arrived to two vehicles with heavy damage. Moore County News arrived on the scene just before 6:30 p.m. and saw firefighters and paramedics loading one of the drivers onto a stretcher. Officials with the Southern Pines Fire Department said that the driver’s injuries are not life-threatening.

According to Southern Pines Police, a Lexus tried to turn left onto Pee Dee Road from Central Road, into the path of a Mazda. The driver of the Mazda was transported to the hospital, and the two occupants of the Lexus were not injured.

The intersection was closed while emergency crews were on the scene investigating and clearing the crash.
