A person lost their home in a Thanksgiving morning fire near Foxfire.
A neighbor called 911 and reported an explosion and flames coming from the camper on Rose Ridge Road around 7 a.m. The caller also stated they thought a plane might have crashed.
Due to the type of incident reported by the caller, resources from all over Moore County and some from Richmond County were dispatched.
Firefighters from West End Fire & Rescue stationed in Foxfire arrived to two campers engulfed in flames. A shed and three vehicles were partially involved, and flames were a threat to other nearby structures.
According to West End Fire & Rescue, the homeowner was not home at the time of the fire, and they were not injured. One animal died in the fire.
The first responders that took time from their holiday plans were from the following departments: West End, Aberdeen, Pinebluff, Pinehurst, Seven Lakes, Eagle Springs, Eastwood, Southern Pines, Derby (Richmond County), Moore County EMS, Moore County Fire Marshal, and Moore County Sheriff’s Office.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The Red Cross is assisting the homeowner.
