Truck crashes into tree, trapping driver

Published on

A single-vehicle crash on River Road near Highfalls left a driver trapped inside their vehicle Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened just after 1 p.m. near the intersection of Tommy Road. According to state troopers, the driver of a Toyota Tacoma crossed the center line and veered off the opposite side of the road, crashing into an embankment before striking a tree.

The vehicle became surrounded by trees, trapping the driver inside. Firefighters had to cut away a tree to clear the passenger side of the truck before rescuers could remove the driver through the passenger door.

The driver was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Authorities say there were no obvious signs of what caused the driver to lose control. River Road was closed for a short time while first responders were on the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
