A late-night crash shut down part of Highway 24-27 near Marley Road on Thursday, sending one driver to the hospital and resulting in multiple charges.

The wreck happened around 11:15 p.m. Troopers said a semi truck had lost part of its load, spilling plastic posts onto the roadway, and was stopped in the westbound lane. Moore County Sheriff’s deputies were on scene directing traffic around the truck when the crash occurred.

According to troopers, the driver of a Toyota sedan failed to stop, nearly striking a deputy before slamming into the back of the semi’s trailer. The impact left the front of the car lodged under the trailer.

The woman behind the wheel was taken to the hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. She now faces several charges related to the crash, including careless and reckless driving.

Neither the semi driver nor the deputies directing traffic were hurt.

Highway 24-27 was closed for just over an hour while officials investigated and cleared the scene.
