More than 2,000 Randolph Electric members lost power Monday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Doubs Chapel Road and Murdocksville Road near Eastwood.

First responders were dispatched to the intersection around 3:30 p.m. and arrived to find a Chevy Tahoe and a Dodge Ram truck heavily damaged. One person was trapped inside the Ram due to damage on both sides, preventing the doors from opening. A trailer being towed by one of the Tahoe became disconnected and came to a stop about 50 yards from the crash site.
Adding to the situation, the Ram truck struck a power pole, splitting it in two places. Neighbors told Moore County News that their lights flickered several times at the moment of impact. Power crews later disconnected the lines from the damaged pole, triggering a widespread outage across central and western Moore County.

Fire fighters from Eastwood, Carthage, and Southern Pines were on scene and helping detour traffic around the crash site. The eastbound lane of Doubs Chapel Road remained closed until crews were able to remove the trailer from the roadway.
According to Troopers investigating the crash, the driver of the Tahoe failed to yield to the Ram truck, causing a T-bone collision. Both drivers were evaluated at the scene by Moore County paramedics, the driver of the Ram truck was transported to the hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
At the time of publication, Randolph Electric had crews working on replacing the power pole and said customers could expect to be out of power for up to six hours.
