Outside fire intentionally set behind grocery store

An outside fire behind the Harris Teeter in Taylortown appears to be intentionally started, according to authorities.

Firefighters arrived around 8 p.m. at the security fencing near the water tower behind Harris Teeter. Upon extinguishing the flames, they quickly determined the fire had been intentionally started in a shopping cart, according to the Pinehurst Fire Department.

Moore County News witnessed Moore County Sheriff’s deputies detaining a person of interest inside the nearby Lowes Food.

The incident remains under investigation.
