A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital after a crash late Friday morning on Highway 15-501 near Lea Road.

It happened just before 11 a.m. when troopers say several cardboard boxes were spotted in the northbound lanes of the highway. A state trooper driving by activated his lights and partially blocked the lane so he could clear the debris from the road.

According to investigators, a GMC Sierra went around the patrol vehicle and stopped abruptly. A motorcyclist behind the truck could not stop in time and slammed into the back of the Sierra.

The rider was taken to the hospital with injuries that were described as not life-threatening.

Northbound traffic was diverted onto Lea Road while Moore County sheriff’s deputies and state troopers investigated and cleared the crash scene.
