A crash between a Harris Teeter truck and a passenger sedan shut down part of Highway 73 near Derby Road in Jackson Springs for several hours Saturday after the impact caused a diesel fuel spill.
Officials at the scene said the car sideswiped the 18 wheeler, rupturing a fuel tank on the truck. About 50 gallons of diesel spilled onto the roadway, creating a hazardous situation that required a lengthy cleanup.

The driver of the sedan suffered significant injuries, according to authorities. She was taken by Moore County EMS to the hospital. The car sustained heavy damage along the driver’s side.
Emergency crews remained on scene for an extended time to address the fuel leak. A hazmat mitigation company has been called to follow up on the spill.
Highway 73 was closed in both directions during the response.
