A head-on collision between a pickup truck and a car shut down a stretch of U.S. Highway 15-501 near Pinebluff Lake Road late Wednesday night.

The crash, which happened just after 9:30 p.m., involved a Ford F-150 and a Honda Civic. Each vehicle had one occupant.

According to troopers investigating the crash, the F-150 was traveling northbound when it crossed the centerline into the path of the southbound Civic. The impact caused the F-150 to roll once before landing back upright.

Emergency crews responded quickly, and firefighters had to extricate one of the drivers from the wreckage. The driver of the Civic was transported to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill due to the severity of their injuries. The driver of the F-150 was taken to Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst with minor injuries.

Troopers say the driver of the F-150 is facing multiple charges, including failure to maintain lane control, careless and reckless driving, and driving while impaired.

U.S. 15-501 was shut down in both directions while first responders worked the scene and investigators began their work. The highway has since reopened.
